Over 60 participants hiked through the Rift Valley in Kenya.
Aziz Bhaloo and his wife Amina took part in the hike to celebrate their 60th birthdays.
"My wife and I are hiking enthusiasts and wanted to spend our significant birthdays doing something worthwhile. FOCUS was a cause close to my heart because I was involved since its inception in Canada. In addition, our daughter and son in law were in Gujarat during the earthquake and FOCUS was the first to give us news of their safety. We had never previously been on overnight hikes and it was a wonderful and testing experience. The most difficult part was cold showers and open toilets, but it was worth it as we managed to raise CAD$200,000."
Aziz was President of the Ismaili Council for Canada when FOCUS was established and, in 2005, he was appointed Chair of the FOCUS International Coordinating Committee.
